|Details:|| The World Tourism Day celebrations this year on September 27th were extra special for Gujarat as it played host to noted professionals from the tourism industry at the International Conference on Sustainable Tourism organized jointly by the Government of Gujarat and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) at Ahmadabad in Gujarat.
Gujarat, one of the premier economies in India has been the hotbed of industrial growth and foreign investments for almost a decade now. The State‟s tourism destinations which had been traditionally unexplored despite their diversity and richness have accordingly been soaring in popularity as more and more people discover the potential Gujarat offers. Gujarat tourism‟s hugely popular and successful “Khushboo Gujarat Ki” campaign featuring Amitabh Bachhan has played a pivotal role in this regard. Gujarat tourism grew by 14% in 2011 which was twice the national average as per the state government. Department of Tourism, Government of Gujarat‟s impressive performance has also been widely acknowledged and appreciated with the department adjudged as the best at the annual awards ceremony of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI)
